Rising Flame Devlog #1 - December 1 2020

Hello everybody ! Welcome to this Rising Flame devlog !

Welcome in this very first devlog of the game! I’ll try to update frequently, but I promise nothing yet. So, I’m guessing most of you don’t even know what is this is game or what it’s about?

Well it’s an Adventure / Tactical RPG heavily inspired by the Shining Force series! The objective of this game for me is mainly to propose a tactical RPG which is not only about the battles but also exploration / adventure, a narration inspired by the 16-bit era of JRPGs and of course a medieval fantasy world.

So the last demo was released quite a while ago, and I took back developing the game only recently. It has very few features, and quite a lot of grammar faults but the game was already playable !

But I digress, let’s take a look a look on what I’ve been doing recently !

Aside the ranged attacks which now works… THE SPELLS are also working as you can see here! Well only offensive ones for now, but don’t worry defensive spells are coming along nicely! (You’ll excuse me for the poor quality of GIF, I had some compression issues)

The “Land Effect” thing is also working. What is that you’ll ask me ? Well it’s the little thing that change you defense depending on which tile your on ! Although, I’m thinking changing the name of that… Perhaps “Land Defense” ? Or just “Defense” ? Idk, but your proposals are welcome.

But there’s also something big you haven’t saw here… Or to be more precise, something you haven’t heard : the new OST ! Our dear HydroGene (which is the ATSN dev, link below) completely composed the nearly 95% of the whole game soundtrack in a “SNES-ish” / 16-bit style, which in my opinion works really well. Here are some sample that you can listen :

The attack music named simply "Clash!!" :

One of the field battle music "For the Stake of our  Nation" :

Moreover, HydroGene also helps me a lot on writing the story. I’ll not tell you anything special here, except that the new story will be much more fleshed out than the previous version! We’ve got something in mind that we hope will be interesting for you!

Finally, I’ve also fixed various bugs, slightly improved the AI, and now the cursor ignore the monsters / enemies that will not move when they are not going to.

Well that’s it for the first devlog, hope you enjoyed it ! It’s not easy to stay motivated all day, developing a game, a such long game especially a RPG (Yeah RPG takes time to make, really) aside school is tiresome but I just freacking love creating game, and I wish that people will somehow enjoy my work :)

Oh and as promised, here is HydroGene game ATSN (FREE DEMO AVAILABLE) : https://dreamveloper.itch.io/always-the-same-nightmare
